Independent Rock News: San Francisco's The Okmoniks release "Afterparty Fever!!!" out now

San Francisco's The Okmoniks have released their LP "Afterparty Fever!!!!" on Slovenly Recordings, which was released on September 2nd (with vinyl hitting the streets on September 27th). Comprising Helene 33 on organ and vocals, Sammy on guitar, Jason on bass, and Pascual on drums, The Okmoniks blend early punk and garage rock influences into a raw sound. Formed in Tucson in 2000, The Okmoniks have made a name for themselves with their energetic live shows and a string of self-released EPs along with one LP on Slovenly Records. Their music captures the essence of their proto-punk roots while injecting a playful nod to their influences. "We love the 60s and 70s West Coast and San Francisco punk," shares Sammy. "We are book-ending the rock n' roll era that Crime began in San Francisco as its last and only rock n' roll band!"

Their latest album features original compositions and self-recordings, showcasing their songwriting prowess and a deep connection to their DIY musical heritage. "Unlike a lot of garage or budget rock bands, The Okmoniks write our own songs," Sammy points out. "But we had to pull one of our favourites out for this record, 'Cry A Little Longer' by a 60s punk band from Tucson called The Grodes." Helene, known for her finger-stretching organ riffs, adds, "I play a 1960s Ace Tone Top 5 organ that requires frequent maintenance, we just tuned it and it sounds great! I also love VOX Jaguars and Farfisa Compacts. These new organ simulator keyboards do not sound good. Gotta have those transistors that catch on fire or whatever."

Their journey has taken them around the globe, performing at renowned festivals like Mosswood Meltdown, Gonerfest, We’re Loud Italia, and Funtastic Dracula Carnival in Spain, alongside their favourite bands such as The Mummies and Reigning Sound. They've even ventured onto unique stages like boats in Sweden and old cruise ships across Europe, embodying their love for unconventional venues and experiences. “We wanted Afterparty Fever!!! to sound like an all-nighter party on two sides," Helene claims on something of a technicality, "that's because it's the same 9 songs on both sides of the LP. Two great records for the price of one -- for those on a budget!"
