Canadian Dark Pop act Hillsboro released its latest EP White Trash last week, which sees the band push their sound into uncharted territory, embracing new found musical freedom, and an unapologetic emotional rawness. The release was heavily influenced by the sounds developed over an intensive run of live performances, which had initially been intended to appear on Hillsboro's 2023 debut, but frontman Nima Walker and co felt it deserved its own EP.   Following the release of singles "sleep dealrr "and 'Fell". The titular track 'White Trash' on the EP originated from a spontaneous jam session led by bassist Tucker Hoey. It started as a joke but evolved into one of Hillsboro’s most well-known live tracks. Hoey's powerful distorted bass lines formed the perfect foundation for an intense and emotive vocal performance from Walker, unlike anything the group had delivered before.

White Trash" is accompanied by a music video Directed by Nima Walker in collaboration with Pablo Garcia. The video, inspired by the works of Harmony Korine, and David Lynch showcases a bleak look at childhood in suburban North America. In support of the EP’s release Hillsboro plans to embark on a second stint of Western US tour dates from August 31st-September 23rd with show announcements soon to come.

Hillsboro's music blends 90s shoegaze with an infectious rhythm section, haunting violin, and frontman Nima Walker's plaintive vocals, creating a balance between nostalgia and originality. The band has been praised as the best live act in their local scene (The Zone 91.3) and has performed alongside Winona Forever, Pink Mountaintops, and Diamond Cafe. They also toured the Western United States in the Autumn of 2023. Their self-titled debut LP, released in September 2023, received critical acclaim from Exclaim!, Under the Radar, and Cups & Cakes. The upcoming "White Trash" EP delves into Walker's adolescent struggles, with themes of self-destruction and resentment. The EP offers ceaseless energy and immaculate DIY production and often teeters on the brink of chaos, but always manages to maintain its sharp focus.
