Photo Credit: Michael Selby Edited by Anselm Anderson Toronto’s The Get Alongs return with their first single “Come On,” from their upcoming album,  Second To None ,  which is due out on June 19, 2026 via Having Fun / We Are Busy Bodies . It’s dose of  jangly,  guitar rock leans towards The Brian Jonestown Massacre and early Oasis . The track is being released using bone conduction technology , which transmits vibrations through the skull. You can enjoy the experience by sucking on a limited-edition lollipop . Come On,” can only be heard while sucking on it The song plays directly inside a user's head using vibration technology. It works by transmitting audio vibrations through the teeth and jawbone to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum entirely. That means that the song travels straight through your jaw and into your skull, bypassing the usual distance between listener and sound. All quite interesting like a Science class! Formed in 2017, the four-piece consists ...

Image
Photo Credit: Hugo Genest ------------------- Montreal ’s sixteen-year-old punk trio General Chaos have released their latest single with “ The Idiots Have Taken Over ,” via  Stomp Records . The second advance single from their upcoming LP Can’t Please ’Em All   is a mid-tempo, groove-orientated track , which is a blend betweenlands between Rancid ’s punch, and the hook-heavy grit of Social Distortion .. “The Idiots Have Taken Over” is a direct, confrontational take on  political dysfunction and power control. Lines like “There’s a problem and no one there to fix it / Shut your fucking mouth because I’m having none of it” are  blunt statements, carried by a chorus that hits you hard. The band contrasts biting lyrics with tight, melodic structure and harmonies. General Chaos formed in 2022 at just twelve years old, they have grown up quickly inside Montreal’s punk scene, from performing at  Pouzza Fest sets to  across Québec and Ontario. They released their ...

------------------- Edited by Anselm Anderson Vancouver's power trio, The Slip-Ons   released their sophomore EP Overtime, released last week via Scamindy Records . The seven-track EP is 90's alternative rock mixed with power pop and draws influences from records by Bob Mould, Hüsker Dü, and The Replacements, with flashes of Ash and Dinosaur Jr. in the guitar tones.  Fronted by Brock Pytel of Montreal pop-punk staples Doughboys and longtime bassist for Sarah McLachlan ,  Brian Minato. T he Vancouver four-piece is completed by Rob “Shockk” Matharu of The Spitfires on guitar and Shane Wilson on drums. Overtime takes its name from the sudden-death hockey period, used as an extended metaphor for pressure and consequence. Politics surface naturally, filtered through experience rather than slogans. As Pytel...

Image
Photo Credit: Nick Pegg This past Friday, Montreal’s The Fake Friends released Let’s Not Overthink This , a full-length that blends post-punk rhythm / new wave late-night record. On Stomp Records , the record nods to Pylon , Wire , Parquet Courts , Cloud Nothings , and Franz Ferdinand , cutting through. The release has been described as a lively and wired album that reflects the city the band were brought up in. What began in 2020 as an opportunity to socialise became a regular occurrence for the group.  Founded by Frontman Matthew Savage and guitarist Luca Santilli, they were soon joined by longtime collaborators Felix Crawford-Legault, Michael Kamps, Bradley Cooper-Graham, and Michael Tomizzi until the lineup locked into place.  The record opens with “ Ministry Of Peace ,” a jittery broadcast that moves toward media noise and cultural static. Savage repeats “no truce” as the song builds, guitars cut through the haze. It sets up the album’s central theme: trying to hold ...
