INDEPENDENT ROCK EP REVIEW: KillerKorp-Vices

Words by Anselm Anderson

England's Extreme heavyweights KillerKorp may sound like a horror movie, but their sound is brutal and uncompromising. Last week, they released "Vices", their latest four-track EP. The follow-up to the 2019 debut "Pain"

The quintet produces extreme metal at breakneck speed, blending modern death metal with blackened hardcore elements to create a headache-inducing experience. The savage riffery and guttural screams are some of the main attributes for fans of Cannibal Corpse and Machine Head. They combine the latter's songwriting for lengthy guitar intros and brutal breakdowns with ex-Cannibal Corpse singer Chris Barnes's vocal ferocity.

KillerKorp have used this tenacity and aggression to evolve on the live circuit with notable appearances alongside contemporaries Raised By Owls, Celestial Sanctuary and Beyond Extinction.

KillerKorp was formed in 2018 by the Lydiatt brothers: Ben (vocals) & Daniel (Bass), drummer Sonny Wright, lead guitarist Jakey Day and Rhythm guitarist Jon-Luke Bloomfield.

The title track "Vices" begins with bone-rattling intros and downturned riffs that set an unsettling tone for the release. ""Last Gasp" is a surge of pure aggression, set against pummeling drums and more groove-oriented riffs. The band seeks to amplify the tension and malice within their music with the aggressive track "Scathed," concentrating on crafting precise riffs like a surgeon's knife, set against the hollow screams of Ben Lydiatt on vocals.

Finally, "Weak" concludes this mini-album with heavy breakdowns and mesmerizing, gothic vocals, taking the band down in an eerie direction.

KillerKorp wraps up the year with a powerful release. Their new track, "Vices," offers a glimpse into the band's intense and brutal metal style, which may not be the most festive choice for the holiday season. However, this release is sure to resonate with the hardcore headbangers among our readership.

CoverArtwork Courtesy of San Pr Words Written by Anselm Anderson Today marks the final chapter of an emphatic trilogy by British Metalcore Heavyweights , Virtue in Vain . Nothing is All I Am ' is the third instalment exploring human emotions and psyche.  The trio began their journey in 2015 with their debut EP,  For All You Know is the Mask I Wore ,  focusing on the loss of identity, before 2019's   Dusk//Dawn looking at the consequences of a terrible night out, whilst 'Nothing is All I Am ' focuses on rebuilding a fractured mind. The trio of lead vocalist Hywel Thomas, guitarist Mason Williams, and drummer Daniel Bryant hail from South Wales deliver another dose of metalcore that hits like a sledgehammer to the head. The band replicates what many other British bands of the genre do, but they bring a story behind their music. Their emotional cries blend with powerful riffs and down-tuned instrumentals that resonate long after the music has stopped. Their...
