Independent Rock Album Review: Last Temptation- Heart Starter

Words by Anselm Anderson

The French rock group Last Temptation has returned with a new sound and lineup. In their latest album, "Heart Starter," they transition from their grunge rock guitar roots to a more traditional modern rock style.

Lead by the talented guitarist Peter Scheithauer, Last Temptation has had a makeover with the addition of charismatic vocalist Loup Malevi, ex-Annihilator drummer Fabio Alessandri and long-time touring partner, bassist Franz OA Wise, Last Temptation delivers a fresh new approach to their music. "Heart Starter" is a commercial rock album in the guise of eighties rock acts like Van Halen and Aerosmith, emphasising groove-orientated riffs and huge choruses to reach a new audience, as they evolve as a unit. They recently made inroads with an appearance at Hellfest!, and supporting German Rock icons Scorpions on tour. The French band hopes to capitalise on that success with a new album, hoping to gain a bigger following from a mainstream audience.

Metalville Records presents this ten-tracker, clocking in under forty minutes, it's an album stacked with anthemic rock tracks and memorable tunes. The LP opens with the soulful "Get On Me", showcasing the newfound chemistry between Scheithauer and Malevi, as the latter sings with a backing chorus. The track "Heart Starter" carries on the eighties-infused, radio-friendly trend, further proving that the acquisitions of Alessandri and Wise were shrewd. Their fusion of tight drumming and flawless basslines offers a rhythmic addiction. As an additional note, I feel this helps amplify the versatility of the guitar work, as it experiments with seven-string, crunchy riffs to sizzling solos, like on"Beauty in Disguise" and "Live by Night"

The whole band are given more freedom to improvise with their influences by adding keyboards to more retro tracks like "All in All Out" and "Wildfire", it gives the album more of an easy-listening rock edge.

Finally, the album wraps up with a bluesy number called "We Are Alive". Heart Starter feels like a revival of sorts for Last Temptation, as they shed their grunge rock tag, for a more refined rock sound. They will be hoping it will be what is needed to kickstart their role in a growing rock scene.

"Heart Starter" is now available via all major streaming platforms

CoverArtwork Courtesy of San Pr Words Written by Anselm Anderson Today marks the final chapter of an emphatic trilogy by British Metalcore Heavyweights , Virtue in Vain . Nothing is All I Am ' is the third instalment exploring human emotions and psyche.  The trio began their journey in 2015 with their debut EP,  For All You Know is the Mask I Wore ,  focusing on the loss of identity, before 2019's   Dusk//Dawn looking at the consequences of a terrible night out, whilst 'Nothing is All I Am ' focuses on rebuilding a fractured mind. The trio of lead vocalist Hywel Thomas, guitarist Mason Williams, and drummer Daniel Bryant hail from South Wales deliver another dose of metalcore that hits like a sledgehammer to the head. The band replicates what many other British bands of the genre do, but they bring a story behind their music. Their emotional cries blend with powerful riffs and down-tuned instrumentals that resonate long after the music has stopped. Their...
