Image
Interview by Anselm Anderson Alt Rock quartet Paraline recently released their debut EP 'Sound Weapon' last month via Eclipse Records. Two brothers formed the band to discover themselves, as they fought issues with the Pandemic and war in Ukraine to produce 'Sound Weapon'. I caught up with lead vocalist Leo Andersen (No relation!😃) to discuss the new album, the unusual recording practices, and adversity in the face of a conflict. Please scroll down to read the full interview. Please introduce yourself to the readers? My name is Leo “Light” Andersen, and I am the band's leader.  Congratulations on the release of Sound Weapon , what has the response to the EP been like? Thank you, and we haven't had a chance to fully gauge the response yet. We've been too busy with producing a new music video to evaluate the results. But our manager says the support from the audience has been overwhelming and that's all I need to know right now. The album is quite varie...

Song Review: Black Vultures - Treat Me Like An Animal

Image
Words by Anselm Anderson The Black Vultures are a new name in the rock world. I am always excited to receive music from a rock act with potential, and these four have plenty of potential. The band hails from South Wales and are set to release their new single "Treat Me Like An Animal" next Friday, November 4th. The track is one of three singles set for release over the next few months before releasing an EP early next year. "Treat Me Like An Animal", an energetic and upbeat rock anthem, is a light-hearted look at being in a bad relationship. The song was recorded at Unit 13 in Tredegar by local producer Tom Williams and mastered by Chris Peet at North House Studio in Ebbw Vale. The Black Vultures are an amalgamation of the quartet's favourite bands: Black Sabbath and Them Crooked Vultures. The track shares some influences from those bands with a catchy chorus and high-tempo riffs. "Treat Me Like An Animal" begins with a screeching riff that blends rock...

Album Review- Civil Villains- Motion Sick

Image
As Reviewed by Anselm Anderson Alt-rockers  Civil Villains  recently released the album Motion Sick . This a follow-up to the debut EP Snake Oil. The trio include influences from widespread as David Bowie and QOTSA to create a unique blend of dark instrumentation, angular riffs and soft vocal melodies. Formed in London back in 2016, the trio have worked hard through their dedication to the art via two North American tours and support slots to such luminaries as Bellevue Days ,  Poly-Math and Kid Kapichi . Recorded at Shaken Oak Studios by Mike Bannard (Foals, Glass Animals), Motion Sick is the finished article of years of hard work. The LP begins on a sombre note with the instrumental intro of 'Funeral Rouge' setting the scene for the first half of the album. The unstable  'Mortuary Blues' kicks things off with its jagged riffs and clever use of pull and tension building the atmosphere to an unsettling end. The mix of bluesy vocals and harsh ones further ...

Song Review: King's County- Holding On

Image
Californian Hard Rockers King's County has been working hard this past year on a new album, including the latest single, 'Holding On'. A follow-up to the ultra-popular 'Equilibrium' with the video amassing over 450k YouTube views. Produced by Chuck Alzakian at Pearl Sound Studios in LA, the song is about moving on from past bad relationships.  "Holding On" has the same metal vibes as the 2000's radio-friendly acts like Seether and 3 Day's Grace. The explosive opening chords of guitarists Steve Bell and Bill Kania capture the listener's attention. Vocalist Dexter's husky voice resonates over a gritty and energetic riff. The song builds towards a catchy chorus mixed with harsh backing vocals. The harrowing vocals combine with thick, rumbling basslines and huge, sinister guitar play.
