Review: Insult- Reside Infernus
Words by Anselm Anderson
Thrash metal band Insult has released their highly anticipated debut album, "Reside Infernus," today. Comprised of former members of 1980s thrash titans Onslaught, the Bristol-based band delivers relentless energy and aggression.
Pulling inspiration from an era characterised by heavy riffs and intense songs about war and religion, Insult channels this into an 8-track package.'Reside Infernus' is the result of perseverence and passion, recorded in a home studio without modern digital tools. The album is half hour or less of breakneck speed and tenacity, reminiscent of Bay Area thrashers Testament and Exodus. The album is a thrash release with NWOBHM stylings.
Formed by ex- Onslaught bassist Jase Stallard and Ex-roadie Jase Howell in the eighties, They have found their opportunity to showcase their talents to the world. Drummer Steve Grice joins guitarists Robbie Harris and Jonny Fifield to complete the lineup. The chugging rhythms and intensity of the dual guitar assault create a melodic yet aggressive metal sound. From the dark opening intro of 'Reside Infernus,' the band builds tension through resonant vocals and thick tones. The tempo on 'Bloodthirsty' builds like a thousand galloping horses, picking up a sense of power and emphasis. Each track changes in tempo and speed, like the anthemic 'Death or Glory,' a powerful blend of punk attitude and slick guitar play.
Insult excels in songwriting with the murky 'Holy War', a song featuring strong melodic guitar leads and introspective lyrics. The blistering guitar riffs in "This Life We Despise" lead seamlessly into the intense imagery of "Berserker." The band draws influences from Slayer and Motörhead, creating an enjoyable listening experience. Each riff feels fresh and original, while the vocals effectively convey the emotions and anger the singer feels towards the world.
The album concludes with the energetic rhythms of "Broken Mind," which build up like an intense headache. Meanwhile, "Power and Hell" rises from the underground like an army, featuring powerful blast beats and dynamic riffs that will leave you feeling exhausted and in need of a rest afterwards.
Insult delivers a straightforward, powerful keg of dynamic metal, filled with intensity to satisfy the traditional fans of thrash.
