Review: Mirrorglass- Handle with Care
Photo courtesy of San PrEdited by Anselm AndersonA few weeks ago, Irish rockers Mirroglass released their debut album, Handle with Care. The nine-track album showcases all the band's influences in punk and hard rock, resulting in an energetic and fresh release. The band is led by a fresh-faced teenager named Joshua Bowles, who has gradually built a reputation for their anthemic and modern sounds. They formed in Cavan, Ireland, in 2022 and have gone through a few lineup changes since. Bowles soon returned from a mini-hiatus with a new lineup, which includes bassist Jack Bogue, keyboardist Vay, and drummer Paul Jackman. Following the release of a couple of singles, the band returned to the studio to record "Handle with Care." The album catches the ears early on with the rebellious 'Hey Honey', an infectious dose of rock'n 'roll, the contagious riffs remind me of bands like AC/DC and The Quireboys. However, the album opens with a spark through 'Hey Honey' and the punk anthem 'Let's Go to Mine', a rousing rocker for the audience to go wild on stage. The glam rock track "Ghost Town" is reminiscent of the seventies and is a radio-friendly song that listeners can easily hum along to. The album transitions into a melodic stage with the soft ballad 'Heart of Gold', 'Better off Dead', and 'Wasted Time', an indie rock track featuring sweet, melodious choruses and rousing riffs. Bowles has a captivating voice for someone his age, and his charm resonates with the audience through this collection of tracks. He is supported by a talented group that compensates for his youth with exceptional guitar work and catchy tunes. The album concludes with the beautiful and elegant ode to a loved one, 'Where Will I Go?'. Bowles shines as he sings with warmth and sorrow, accompanied by a complementary string arrangement. 'Handle with Care' has some highlights, featuring heavier, boisterous tracks blended with charming melodies and fist-pumping punk tracks, which add to the delight of Mirrorglass.
