Words from Anselm Anderson

Horror rocker Wednesday 13 returns after a three-year hiatus with his latest studio album, "Mid Death Crisis," released today via Napalm Records. The Murderdolls vocalist follows up his 2022 album "Horrifier" with his heaviest record. The new album is filled with his signature wit and clever wordplay. It features a strong 1980s influence, with chugging grooves and arena-like fist-pumping tracks sure to satisfy the average fan.

The Duke of Spook promises a "leave-your-brain-at-the-door" rager, and he certainly delivers. The vocalist has brought in guitarist Alex Kane to produce an album that blends dark glam with 80s-influenced hard rock. 'Mid Death Crisis' demonstrates that there are no signs of slowing down as he delves into lyrical depth and experiments with new sounds.

The eerie intro "There Are No Such Things as Monsters" begins before the rebellious "Decease and Desist," and the anthemic "The Devil Commands" kicks the album into gear with industrious guitars and thumping drums. The heaviness, combined with energetic choruses and rousing riffs, showcases the band's evolution over the past three years.

Tracks like "Decapitation" "Blood Storm" and  "Rotting Away" are throwbacks to the band's earlier horror punk days and feature metallic guitars. Meanwhile, "No Apologies," which features Taime Downe from Faster Pussycat, is a contagious punk track characterized by its catchy leading riff and hook-laden chorus.

The album proudly showcases its influences, particularly with a clear nod to Alice Cooper, which helps shape "Mid Death Crisis" into an accessible experience. Wednesday 13 maintains momentum with fast-paced and aggressive tracks that fans will enjoy. He also takes time to shift the mood with his own take on love ballads, such as "In Misery" and "I Hurt You," presented in his unique style.

Finally, the dark ode "My Funeral" and the intense track "Sick and Violent" highlight Wednesday 13's talent for crafting gruesome imagery through clever metaphors. Overall, "Mid Death Crisis" is an energetic blend of metal and hard rock with a flair for horror. It is undoubtedly one of the stronger releases from Wednesday 13 in recent years.

CoverArtwork Courtesy of San Pr Words Written by Anselm Anderson Today marks the final chapter of an emphatic trilogy by British Metalcore Heavyweights , Virtue in Vain . Nothing is All I Am ' is the third instalment exploring human emotions and psyche.  The trio began their journey in 2015 with their debut EP,  For All You Know is the Mask I Wore ,  focusing on the loss of identity, before 2019's   Dusk//Dawn looking at the consequences of a terrible night out, whilst 'Nothing is All I Am ' focuses on rebuilding a fractured mind. The trio of lead vocalist Hywel Thomas, guitarist Mason Williams, and drummer Daniel Bryant hail from South Wales deliver another dose of metalcore that hits like a sledgehammer to the head. The band replicates what many other British bands of the genre do, but they bring a story behind their music. Their emotional cries blend with powerful riffs and down-tuned instrumentals that resonate long after the music has stopped. Their...
