Album Review: Luna Marble- Luna Marble

Words by Anselm Anderson

A couple of weeks ago, Female-fronted rock act Luna Marble released their much-anticipated self-titled debut album. The album marks a turning point for the quartet as they embark on a new journey in their blossoming career. The band combines 70s-tinged psychedelic rock with energy, passion, and raw emotion, as part of a collection of songs recorded earlier in their career. Inspired by icons like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and co, they formed five years ago in Manchester, England. They are led by the commanding vocals of Maria Rico, the cosmic flair of guitarist Dragos Colceriu, bassist David Grundy, and drummer Sean Stewart. Luna Marble was mastered by Jimmy Spencer at various locations in Manchester, including Salford University.
The album aims to establish the band's identity, starting with the opening track "Running," which delivers a breath of fresh air through thunderous blues riffs and powerful vocals. This song stands out with its catchy choruses, reminiscent of bands like Jefferson Starship. The lustrous grooves on "All My Love" showcase the band's ability to craft massive riffs and choruses, while Rico delivers an impressive vocal performance that is full of depth and emotion. The production draws listeners in, creating the feeling that they are watching the band perform live in a bar.

The album features a captivating array of melodic tracks, including "So Long" and "Sea of Sorrow," which are both heartwarming and mesmerising. The thick, rumbling basslines paired with uplifting, rhythmic riffs create an engaging sound. The ethereal and mythical quality of songs like "Redemption" and "The Ride" draws in the audience, with foot-tapping blues rhythms and powerful vocals. Rico carries each track with confidence and charisma, showcasing the sultry strength of a singer with powerful, soulful vocals. The impressive blues sections breathe life into the music, complemented by contagious riffs and soul-stirring lyrics“Begging Mercy” is a standout solo performance as Rico captivates the listener with an intimate display of a singer pouring her heart out, alongside “Waves.”
The album concludes with an acoustic rendition of their song 'Mad World', as Rico expresses her frustrations with the male-dominated rock scene.
Luna Marble presents an engaging and anthemic introduction to rock audiences with emotive, bluesy, and thought-provoking lyrics complemented by elegant songwriting, focusing on both easy listening and conveying a powerful message.
