The quartet impress with their emotive choruses, harsh vocals, and thunderous riffs, which evoke comparisons to bands like Biffy Clyro, Deftones, and Killswitch Engage. The band was formed in Bridgend, Wales, in 2023 and consists of lead vocalist Benjamin James, guitarist and backing vocalist Rob Norris, drummer Rudy Mason, and bassist Dave Snell. Edit the Tide has worked diligently to earn support from nationwide radio outlets such as Kerrang! and the BBC, supporting bands like The Virgin Marys and appearing in publications like Powerplay. The five-track was produced and mixed by the renowned Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine) at Longwave Studios. The band has developed a heavier and more progressive sound in this release, exploring themes of love, regret, fear, loss, space, and time. This is examined in depth as the band taps into their vulnerable state.
The EP recalls the emotive, progressive bands of the 2010s, featuring singalong choruses, complex time signatures, and a sense of discord between long, melodic instrumental passages and abrasive, harsh metal guitar sounds pushing against them. This is epitomised in the opening track 'Echoes,' a powerful yet despondent anthem that combines angst-ridden vocals with strong basslines and rigid guitar riffs, making it a likely hit on national radio stations. The adrenaline-fueled intensity of "The Cost of Standing Still" gives the track a sense of urgency and energy. The opening riff hits the listener with its aggressive and dark tones, while the interplay between harsh and harmonious vocals reflects a struggle between frustration and relief.
