The Rambling Man always ventures to promote new bands, as a means to educate the readers. Today, I grabbed an opportunity to speak with the lead vocalist of the newly formed Sirensong, who recently released their latest single "March Into The Sun". Please scroll down to read the full transcript with Alice Freya, in which she discussed the inception of the band, their new single, and their upcoming album.
Hello, how are you? Could you introduce yourself to the readers?
We are SIRENSONG, a five-piece hard rock/ metal band from South Wales.
Alice Freya - Vocals
Jon Evans & Ryan Barnard - Guitars
Billy George - Bass
Daz Joseph - Drums
Sirensong are a relatively new band. Could you explain how the band got together?
Most of us have been in bands together before, with four of us previously playing in a prog band called Last Flight To Pluto). We were feeling an urge to concentrate on a different sound and direction, which wouldn't have completely sat well on the prog scene. That really started to show when we began writing again, so we knew we needed to separate what we'd already done, from what we were doing. Billy was the only one who hadn't been in a band with us, but we'd all seen him play and agreed that he'd be a good fit for what we were trying to create.
How would you describe your sound?
We'd say our sound is a rare mash-up of hard rock, metal, electronica and catchy choruses.
A combination of heavy-hitting riffs smacking the wind right out of you, with earworm hooks that get stuck in your head.
You recently released the powerful “March into the Sun”, could you explain the meaning behind the track?
We think that many of us are feeling lost right now. And we have very little faith left in the people in power. There's a constant uneasy feeling bubbling away under the surface all around the world. There's so much corruption, injustice and lies in the mainstream media. And the threat of another war is feeling closer by the day.
So 'March Into The Sun' is really about people power, telling us to stand up for what we believe in and not letting ourselves be pawn pieces for our world leaders to play with.
You are currently in the studio recording your debut album could you tell me a bit about it, and what listeners can expect?
The album is so close to being finished, there are only three songs left to get down and a few little touches to add here and there, so we're hoping for a late winter / early spring release. Billy says it reminds him of a modern day, heavy version of 'Rumours' (Fleetwood Mac) , where you know you're still listening to the same band, but you can hear that we've worked on the songs individually too. Allowing our own style and influences come through.
So we'd say to expect the unexpected.
There seem to be some exciting new bands from Wales, how would you describe the music scene, and what impact do you hope your music will have on a broader audience?
South Wales is bursting with some amazing talent right now. Those Damn Crows, Scarlet Rebels and Kill The Lights are some of the main bands coming out of our area. There's definitely a renaissance for original rock bands happening and new venues opening up. We're hoping to be able to perform at as many of these new venues as we can and show our support. Hopefully, we're offering something a little bit different and the audience will embrace that.
Members of the bands have appeared at notable festivals like Bloodstock and supported acts like Megadeth and Testament. What can you tell me about those experiences? And what impact does that have on the band’s confidence?
There are no words to describe seeing your band's name on the same bill as the bands you've grown up listening to or artists that are making big waves, it's just incredible and you can't help but have an overwhelming feeling of pride. It definitely boosts your confidence and belief in what you're doing.
Do you aspire to share the stage with similar acts, and perform at those big-name festivals?
We love playing to larger audiences at festivals etc, watching a big crowd getting swept up in your performance is the best feeling in the world.
You never want it to end and when it does, you just want to get back on stage and do it all again.
Hopefully, we can take SIRENSONG to those bigger festivals like Bloodstock, Download etc.
Sirensong has plans for a few tours lined up, what can you tell me about those shows?
We have some exciting support slots coming up in 2025, but unfortunately, we're not allowed to make announcements ourselves just yet. All we can say is that we'll be appearing in Wales and England, so keep an eye on our socials for the reveal.
Finally, what are your aspirations for Sirensong?
At this point, we really just want to push ourselves and the band as far as possible. We're not putting any limitations on what we want to achieve and know that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, that's something that we're prepared for and look forward to.
