Washington, D.C.-based band Sexfaces releases their debut full-length album, BAD VIBES OST, today through Slovenly Records. Recorded and mixed in April 2024 under the guidance of Boner 4Ever, the album was engineered by Dan Angel and produced by Ben Schurr. This 11-track collection delivers a high-energy mix of garage rock and raw, dirty punk sounds, reflecting the band's carefree attitude.

The release is paired with a visually striking video directed by Jonathan Howard, reflecting the band's straightforward approach. SEXFACES are drummer Jacky Cougar (Des Demonas, Thee Lolitas), guitarist Sal Go (Stop Worrying & Love the Bomb, The NVs), vocalist Hana Racecar (Tadzio, Coven Tree), and bassist FiFi Allin (TK Echo, Et At It)  Together, they play music, heavily influenced by the Velvet Underground, The Fall, The Damned and  Royal Trux.

Sexfaces declare, “We play full-noise, zero-fluff, based music for bad people.” BAD VIBES OST is the. Follow up to their Young Team EP, the band brought in producer  Dan Angel to assist in recording the album. Mastered by Jim Diamond of Ghetto Recorders, it’s a record of maximum noise with scuzzy guitars and in-your-face vocals.  Opener “Ultraviolence” is a psychedelic throwback to the nineties.” That tension builds throughout BAD VIBES OST, from the confrontational punk anthem "Anti-Satanic Drugs" to “Can’t Do That”, which was written by Jacky and Sal, whilst  “S.C.U.M” was inspired by a late-night read of Valerie Solanas' manifesto.

Jacky explains 'Can't Do That' was inspired by misremembering a Lemmy Kilmister anecdote when titling 'Can’t Do That.” “Lemmy told me about joining Hawkwind: ‘I was tripping on acid ’cause everything was laced, I stumbled onstage, and someone gave me a bass and said ‘play something in G, this one is called You Shouldn’t Do That. But I remembered it as You Can’t Do That.” Elsewhere, “Johnny and Moz” is about a wrecked relationship, inspired by an Al Pacino anecdote.  Meanwhile, “Comfort Man” and “Special/Lame” are digs at a shared nemesis with Ben’s dad featuring with a flute solo.

EP Review: Virtue in Vain-Nothing is All I Am

CoverArtwork Courtesy of San Pr Words Written by Anselm Anderson Today marks the final chapter of an emphatic trilogy by British Metalcore Heavyweights , Virtue in Vain . Nothing is All I Am ' is the third instalment exploring human emotions and psyche.  The trio began their journey in 2015 with their debut EP,  For All You Know is the Mask I Wore ,  focusing on the loss of identity, before 2019's   Dusk//Dawn looking at the consequences of a terrible night out, whilst 'Nothing is All I Am ' focuses on rebuilding a fractured mind. The trio of lead vocalist Hywel Thomas, guitarist Mason Williams, and drummer Daniel Bryant hail from South Wales deliver another dose of metalcore that hits like a sledgehammer to the head. The band replicates what many other British bands of the genre do, but they bring a story behind their music. Their emotional cries blend with powerful riffs and down-tuned instrumentals that resonate long after the music has stopped. Their...
